Behaviour Management Policy
We at Green Acres encourage and promote positive behaviour amongst all our children. We will endeavour to:
- Listen to children.
- Value and respect children as individuals.
- Involve children in decision-making, as appropriate.
- Encourage and praise children.
At the Crèche children are encouraged to grow and develop to their full potential. Children’s efforts, achievements and feelings will always be acknowledged so as to promote the growth of self-esteem and self-discipline. The service will strive to manage behaviour consistently in order that children have the security of knowing what to expect and can build up good patterns of discipline.
The following are examples of strategies we use to support children to understand their challenging behaviour and control it:
Re-direction
This is where we guide a child into a more acceptable activity when they are engaged in an unacceptable activity.
Choices
Age appropriate choices are given to the children and they are given the responsibility to choose for themselves.
Logical & Natural Consequences
The child will be made aware of the consequences of their actions. For example “if you do not eat ……you will be hungry later…"
Limited Settings
Boundaries are established for particular situations and the children are made aware of them.
Modelling
Children are shown positive methods of interaction and thereby learn from them.
Setting Up The Appropriate Environment
Our Childcare centre is set up carefully. If our observations indicate a number of children using the toys or equipment poorly we will rearrange the area.
Positive Reinforcement
Positive Reinforcement and encouragement will be used at all times. A Child will be spoken to about any negative behaviour and encouraged towards positive behaviour, our attention will be put on praising the appropriate behaviour. We believe in promoting positive behaviour. In certain cases, you may be asked to meet with us to discuss behaviour
